Weekly Groove Classes in South Cumbria

If you love to dance but don’t want the pressure of learning complicated routines, fancy footwork, or getting steps right, you are very welcome on our dancefloor.

Groove is an inclusive movement class designed for people who want to experience the joy of dancing without any pressure to look or move a certain way.

Each track comes with a few basic steps to get you started, but how you dance is entirely up to you. You can bring loads of energy, keep your movements small, or adapt things to suit how you feel on the day. Groove is for everyone, and everyone grooves their own way.

What to expect

Our sessions are friendly, down-to-earth, and completely expectation-free. Here is everything you need to know before joining a class.

Come as you are: There is no need for specific fitness gear. Whether you are comfy in your favourite leggings, a baggy t-shirt, or colourful dungarees, just turn up as yourself.

Footwear: We encourage grooving barefoot or in non-slip socks to help you feel the floor, but just as many people wear trainers for extra support. Clean, comfy trainers are absolutely fine.

No audience, no judgement: There is no front or back to the room, and nobody is watching. Everyone is far too busy having fun and enjoying their own dancing to worry about what anyone else is doing.

The freedom to switch off: With no complicated choreography to remember, you can leave the outside world at the door, let loose, and just enjoy the music.

The chill-out zone: Each hour finishes with a dedicated time for stillness, leaving you completely relaxed and ready for the rest of your day and evening. You are welcome to bring a yoga mat or a cosy blanket for this part.

Why our Groovers keep coming back

When we asked people who come to class to describe Groove, they talked about finding a sense of connection and fun. It is an experience that looks after you from head to toe.

A great headspace: It is a brilliant way to clear your mind and shake off the week. You leave the room feeling refreshed, lighter, and with a boost of energy.

Moving your body: The session starts with a steady warm-up, moves into higher-energy tracks, and then slows back down. It’s a great way to build your fitness and improve your balance, all while choosing your own intensity.

United and unique: Everyone on the dancefloor shares the same basic move or step, but you are completely free to bring your own style and personality to it. It is a friendly space that naturally builds your confidence over time.

The lovely lot you'll dance with: You’ll be dancing alongside a friendly group of people who don't take themselves too seriously.

Off the dancefloor: On Wednesdays in Milnthorpe, there is always the option to pop to the pub for a drink after class, and on Fridays at Crooklands, a group heads out for a cuppa and cake together.

I did not really know what Groove was but I went to my first class and loved it. It was fun, friendly and invigorating. It is somewhere you can be yourself, feel young again as there are no rules you can just let it all out freely. Would recommend it to anyone. Thanks to Soozi and all of the class for making me feel so welcome.

Your Groove facilitator

Hi, I’m Soozi Kay, facilitator for The World Groove Movement. I discovered Groove in 2023, and it was a revelation. Groove isn't just exercise for me, it's a full-on experience that lifts my spirits, melts away stress, and keeps my body feeling fantastic. There really is nothing quite like it. Groove is pure joy. Releasing, centering, empowering, and lots of other ing words.

Across the globe, Groovers are coming together to move, groove and connect. If you love all kinds of music and want to dance for fitness or fun, there’s a place on the Groove dancefloor for you.
