Summer Saturdays: Silent Disco Groove in the Park, Kendal

Hop out of bed, stretch your legs, and start your weekend with great music, fresh air, and a lovely community.

Imagine waking up on a bright Saturday morning, stepping out into the fresh air, and starting your weekend with great music, movement, and a wonderful group of people.

This summer, we are bringing something special to Abbot Hall Park in Kendal.

Whether you’re a regular dancer or haven’t moved to music in years, there’s a spot on the grass waiting for you.

We'll be dancing in a quiet, shady spot under the trees. Meeting up around 8.20am, so you can head straight over to find us and get settled.

What is a Park Groove?

It’s a morning silent disco with a twist! We slip on a pair of comfy wireless headphones and share a completely guided dance experience together.

From 8.30am to 9.30am, it’s all about losing yourself in the music, clearing your head, and shaking off the week. It’s the perfect way to get those feel-good weekend vibes flowing before the rest of the world is even fully awake.

Even if you aren't naturally a morning person, this is definitely worth getting out of bed for. You can be back home by 10.00am, energised and ready to enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

How does it work?

If you’ve never tried a Groove class before, you are in for a treat. And please don't worry. You won’t just be left to dance on your own in a park!

The magic happens the moment you put your headphones on. You’ll hear the music clearly, and I will be right there in your ears, guiding you through the whole session. You’ll always know exactly what to do, and the rest of the world just fades away.

Groove is about moving your body to great music, without the pressure of learning complicated choreography or getting steps "right."

In fact, you can't do it wrong.

  • Simple, easy moves: You don’t need any dance experience or a perfect sense of rhythm. We all share the same simple, basic movement to each song together, so you are never left wondering what to do.

  • Your own unique style: From that simple starting point, you get to move entirely in your own way. Whether your movements are small and gentle or big and expressive, you choose exactly how you want to dance.

  • Zero pressure: Because everyone has their headphones on and is immersed in the music, nobody is watching you. The worry about "getting it right" completely disappears, leaving you free to just enjoy the music and connect with how good it feels to move.

  • Feeling at ease: If you’re worried about dog walkers or passers-by, you’ll find that anxiety completely disappears the moment your headphones go on. Most people are just enjoying their own morning stroll. And if anyone does look over, they are usually just smiling and secretly wishing they were doing something as fun and uplifting with their Saturday morning!

What if the Cumbrian weather does what it does best?

Don't worry, we won't let a bit of rain dampen our spirits! If it’s looking too wet outside, we have an indoor backup plan ready to go. We will simply move our happy dance party inside, so your Saturday morning routine stays locked in, come rain or shine.

Our indoor space is located at 31a Castle Mills in Kendal, LA9 7DE, just a short walk from Abbot Hall, and with parking available if you’re driving. We'll send an email/WhatsApp by 7.45am if we are moving inside.

When, where and what to wear!

You don't need any dance experience, special gear, or a partner. Just bring yourself, a bottle of water, and some layers you can move easily in. Dance barefoot or in comfy shoes.

Silent grooving outdoors is something really special! Once you pop on the headphones, you enter a magical world of music without outside distractions. Soozi guides on a few moves for each track that you do your way. Every single tune is uplifting, and the session is designed to help you move your whole body, notice your own patterns and explore different ways of moving. It’s joyful, life-enhancing and rather epic!!
