Pole Fitness - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to be strong to do pole?

No. You build strength by doing pole. As you progress, you will notice yourself becoming significantly stronger. It’s likely you’ll discover muscles you didn’t even know you had!

If you would like to work on upper body strength to supplement your pole class, press-ups are a good option but don’t overdo it. Overtraining can actually slow your progress.

  • What should I wear?

Great question. A fitted vest top or short sleeve t-shirt and form-fitting shorts are a good choice - something comfortable that you can move in. If you are uneasy about shorts, choose leggings or joggers to get started. Bare feet, ballet slippers or grippy socks for safety. Good coverage underwear in case your outer layers slip, and a sports bra if you need extra support.

  • Do I need to bring anything?

Please bring your own water and warm layers for the warm-up and cool-down. You might also like to bring a microfibre cloth or flannel to dry your hands and prevent slipping. If you are asthmatic, please bring your inhaler and let your instructor know where it is. Pole grip may be useful further down the line but, in the early days, training your grip strength without additional aids is recommended.

  • Do I have to remove jewellery?

Yes, please. Rings, bracelets and body jewellery can scratch or catch the pole. To avoid damage to you, the pole, and your lovely jewellery. Please remove all accessories, including smartwatches, fitness trackers, jewellery and body piercings that aren’t covered by clothing.

  • Will moisturiser help me to spin?

Eek! No. You need to be able to grip for pole. Products will make you slip off the pole! For safety reasons, it is essential not to use any moisturiser, oils, lotions, creams or tanning products on the day of your class. To be on the safe side, avoid any non-essential moisturisers and lotions for 24 hours before your class.

  • Is there a lower age limit for pole?

You must be over 16 to attend a pole class. Participants between the age of 16 and 18 years must have written consent from a parent or guardian. Or why not bring your mum along? We regularly teach super-cool mums and daughters! Under 16s by special arrangement only when accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • Am I too old to do pole?

If you’re in good health, it doesn’t matter whether you’re under 20 or over 60. Drop me a message if you would like to give pole a try. We can always arrange a private lesson to see how you get on before joining a class.

Interesting fact: the current record holder for the most “mature” poler is 73 years young.

  • Will I be sharing a pole?

Yes. Typically two sharing, with a maximum of three per pole. Occasionally, you might get a pole to yourself, but take breaks. A full hour of pole fitness can be hard work.

In this post-covid world, pole cleaning products are provided; please use them between goes. If you feel unwell on the day of your class or have Covid symptoms, stay snuggled up at home and let me know.

  • What happens if I miss a class?

Pole is booked and paid for in 4-week blocks that cannot be refunded or transferred if you miss a class.

If you know that you will be away for two or more classes in a four-week block, a drop-in pass could be more cost-effective - subject to there being a space available in your preferred class.

  • How do I book a class?

Pole is booked in 4-week blocks via the Shop. Click the “Pole Fitness” category to see the next start date and buy your block. New blocks will be released approximately 1 week before the end of the previous block and will remain available up to the start date. Thereafter, drop-in will be offered - subject to spaces being available.

If you can’t make all four classes, you can check how many spaces are available in your preferred class and book directly via the Calendar with a drop-in pass.

Find the class you’d like to book on the calendar. Click the class name to book online. You’ll be guided to create an account (or login) during checkout.

If you would like a reminder before your class, go to account settings and choose a notification option.

  • How do I book a private lesson?

Check the Calendar for the next available private pole session. Typically 4.30pm on a Thursday, or other times and days by arrangement. Please ask.

Click to book, and you’ll be guided to create an account (or login). Choose a single pass, valid for two months, or save with a block of four to be redeemed within six months.

If you would like a reminder before your lesson, go to account settings and choose a notification option.

  • What is your booking and cancellation policy?

You can read our full booking terms and conditions here: https://www.soozikay.co.uk/terms

  • Anything else I need to know?

You will be asked to complete a PARQ health/ participation form before your first class.

If you have any medical conditions or injuries, or you are worried about any aspect of your health that could prevent you from doing physical activity, you must consult your doctor before attending a class.

Please always arrive early for your class. Missing some or all of the warm-up will significantly increase your chance of injury and will exclude you from taking part.

If you can’t find an answer to your question drop me a message and I’ll get back to you.
